National Stationery Week – Fountain Pen Friday ft. LAMY & Bureau Direct

Lamy Safari Dark Lilac Limited Edition 2016Today is Fountain Pen Friday – a day dedicated to bringing back (or out) the fountain pen, of course.  I absolutely love fountain pens, inks and in particular bottled inks.  I’ve been told I’m weird for this love of mine – often as people don’t expect someone my age to love stationery or fountain pens that much that I opt to write letters rather than send texts…  Nonetheless, I stand by my “weirdness” and honour it fully by saying that I still love my fountain pens, no matter what anyone says.  My range is rather small but it’s certainly growing as I treat myself to a new ink or pen every so often.  I’ve recently done an order that was full of new pens for me to try out and had to include a new fountain pen or two, of course!  I’ll be doing a proper review in time of the inks I have, as well as all of the new pens.  However, today I wanted to do a quick post talking about my initial thoughts of the brand new Special Edition LAMY Safari Dark Lilac fountain pen.

The LAMY Safari fountain pens are a very popular choice of pens – I have commonly seen that they are one of the first fountain pens people try.  They are great for beginners and are incredibly affordable, so I’m not surprised at all.  Personally, I was never convinced I had to have one… until I saw this.  It’s beautiful.  It instantly won my heart.  Not only is it a gorgeous colour (I do love a bit of purple – or rather, dark lilac – in my life), it is also beautifully detailed.  I absolutely love that the nib is black – perfectly matching the clip as well as the section on the inside (which is dark lilac but has a black ring on display).

More often than not, you find that at least one of the parts of the pen is a different colour but that’s not the case here today.  It’s a perfect combination of dark lilac and black.  I’ve fallen head over heels in love with this colour and just had to get my hands on it.  The pen has a shimmery matte effect too, which is hard to capture in photos but really looks beautiful in person.

I never thought I would say this but I think LAMY are really starting to win my heart with this one!  I might have to try out their pink fountain pen and the lime green that attracted me to finding out a bit more about the company too now – perhaps I’ve been missing out all of this time!  I’ll have to do a proper review once I get some new inks to test this beauty with and actually get to play with it a little more!

But for now, if you’re after this pen then I got mine from Bureau Direct – and they do matching inks too!  In fact, I regret not getting a set of the dark lilac cartridges to play with when I was ordering this…  I think I’ll have to revisit them soon and rectify that mistake!  I have commonly ordered fountain pens or inks from Bureau Direct so it actually seems quite fitting for me to mention them on a day dedicated to Fountain Pens!  But be careful, if you check out their blog (which I do highly recommend doing), you might end like me and just want to buy everything!  You’ve been warned, it’s seriously full of beautiful goodies at a really good price.
