Field Notes Byline

Field Notes Byline.pngWhen I think of “Field Notes”, I instantly picture one of their pocket notebooks.  Whether it’s their Kraft series or a limited edition version, it’s always a pocket notebook that I think of in the traditional sense of the word.  I think of the 5.5″ x 3.5″ staple bound pocket notebooks that they commonly produce.

If you didn’t already know, Field Notes release a special new limited edition notebook every season.  These limited edition versions are only printed in small batches and once sold out, are gone.  The number of packets printed for each edition is listed on the website, as well as on the inside covers of the notebooks themselves.  And let’s be honest, every time they do something new and amazing.  They play with the quality of the paper, the colour of it, the cover material, perforation and many more things as they look to create new exciting products.  It’s always exciting to see what they come up with every season.  In Summer 2016, they launched the Byline edition – and like always, it was a surprise.  The Byline edition is completely different to the other series in that it is a Reporter’s Notebook.  A proper top spiral bound flip book sort of reporter’s notebook.  Today’s post will be a look into the Byline edition. Read More »

6th December is the last day to send your letter to Santa and receive a free reply from @royalmailofficial. Find out more on my blog. I have my letter ready to go! Though, I don't really need a reply...
I am so ready for December to start... Got my Inkvent ready!
Yes, I know it's just turned November but... If you make Christmas Cards yourself then you need to start now in order to finish in time! So... I had a little play with the Christmas Craft Bundle from @DesignBundles and made a bunch of cards very quickly. Check out the new blog post (link in bio) to see cards that I made and the quick & easy tutorials!
I’ve been pretty bad at keeping up with my lettering pieces and instagramming since I returned from my trip but I do have a few to share with you. Since today is Halloween, let’s start with this - Happy Halloween 🎃 !
Today I attended a free event that might actually be life-changing. I went to a #TodayatApple event, at a London Apple Store for The Big Draw. Swipe to see my art. Read below for full story. . Liz Atkin spoke about her condition, sharing her story. As she spoke, I realised some things were very relatable. She raised awareness of compulsive behaviours and mental health - like compulsive skin picking. . I don't have it to the same extent, by any means. But I often scratch and pick when I'm bored, anxious, worried and things do get worse when my mental health gets worse. Listening to Liz made me realise how often I do it. I caught myself doing it a lot whilst listening to her. . @Apple gave us an iPad to play with, using @Procreate and an Apple pencil (perhaps my favourite Apple product ever) and honestly... I got so focused into the art that I didn't feel the need to scratch or pick. I could have drawn for a lot longer, if we had time. It was so nice. . I used a @pandocruises advert to draw, mostly because I love being outdoors and I've always wanted to go on one of them. It was kind of a way of focusing on selfcare. I drew for myself. . And then, somehow, I found myself looking at a giant version of my art in store. Never thought I would see anything I made in such a scale. . A huge thank you to Liz @Liz_atkin for raising awareness of these important conditions and for also giving me a potential outlet. I haven't tried to make art in this style but it really was quite relaxing.
I wasn’t sure if I was done with this or wanted to add to it, so I’ve been sitting on it for a few days. I think I’m going to just call it done and accept it the way it is. Love yourself, is such a simple prompt and yet, we often forget to do it. Hopefully this serves as a reminder to love yourself.
I’ve been very excited to post this one. It captures a lot of what I’m doing this week. After a hectic time at work, I’ve taken a week to go a retreat, do some exercise and enjoy the sun. Mostly a yoga filled beach trip. I’ve brought along some stationery to do some art, in my free time. So self care comes first is a good prompt to summarise how I feel about the week and the decisions that led me to taking it. I highly recommend. And yes, that is a beautiful sunset from the beach.
Spending the afternoon on the beach, with a book and my @baronfig notebook to journal in is a great way to relax.
The sixth prompt of simple reminders is to do what makes your soul shine. I just had to pick up a dip nib and do this one by hand. I do love my iPad and lettering on it but stationery has a special place in my heart. Just had to crack it open for this one.
Thought I’d try something a little different with the prompt “crazy beautiful” for day five of simple reminders.
Mistakes are a part of life. If you’re making mistakes, at least you’re out there doing something. So Rock Your Lettering today and make mistakes.
This one may be my favourite so far, I love the way it turned out. I’m biased though as I love a bit of space / galaxy themed pieces.
Playing catch-up as I’m now on holiday. Here is day four of the Rock Your Lettering challenge.
I love this quote, from today’s simple reminders challenge. Be kind folks, it’s beautiful.
Day three of rock your lettering challenge is this simple yet effective advice. I kind of like how it turned out. Kept it simple but hopefully brightens up your feed.#RockYourLettering
I can’t quite place what I dislike about this piece. There’s something it’s missing but I have spent many hours trying to figure it out and I can’t. So I’m just going to accept it, the way it is. So day two of Rock Your Lettering challenge is "learn from falling". #RockYourLettering
Day 2 of the Simple Reminders in life challenge, using the prompt “be human to the fullest”. Decided to make a colourful piece to try and capture the beauty of being human.
Day 1 - Kickstarting off my lettering challenges with this Procreate lettering piece as I’m on holiday and away from my supplies. Decided I needed to practice digital lettering - which you can tell from the process video!
