National Stationery Week – Get Organised Day

PlannersGet organised day?  That can only mean one thing in my books – planning day!  This is clearly one of my favourite themes simply because it means I get to include pictures of the planners that I love for no other reason than to share them with you, because I love them.  Planners are an essential part of how I organise my life.  I have previously shared how I used 3 different planners on a regular basis.  I am currently changing everything up again so I will be sure to share this with you once I have the new set up.

If you’re new to planning or don’t use one – please consider it!  Planning has really helped me to figure out my dreams, goals and to start reaching them.  Without it, I would be lost and I certainly would not have achieved all of the things that I have achieved today.  I love seeing my goals getting ticked off and my dreams coming closer – and I would absolutely love to see the same for you.

So let’s talk about planners today and my thoughts on how to get organised!  Now there’s tons of ways to use your planners – I think I once made a list that was too long to fit on a single page… Whoops!  But these are a few of my favourite ways to get organised…Read More »

National Stationery Week – Pencil Day ft. Palomino Blackwing & Field Notes Pencils

Blackwings Pearl & Field Notes PencilsOn the first day of Christmas NatStatWeek, my true love sent to me: a pencil day.  Now I’ve never really thought of myself as a fan of pencils – I’ve always been a fan of ink and pens.  However, this is not because I dislike them but rather I think I’ve just never realised how important pencils are and how much I use them in my daily life.  All of my drawings are designed with pencils… all of my sketches, card design ideas, sticker designs are all sketched with pencils… they always have been.  I have a set of pencils from when I was younger that range from 9B to 9H – covering all of my needs – but I still never really appreciated them.  Until recently.  I now know how amazing these little creations are, how easy they are to use and how much I love the ability to erase them when I make a mistake (which is probably quite often…).Read More »

National Stationery Week 2016

As a Stationery Blogger, there’s nothing really more exciting than this week – National Stationery Week (#NatStatWeek) – and the best part is that this week is finally upon us.   That is 7 days of stationery, each day has its own theme and it’s perfect for anyone to get involved in.  I love how active the hashtag #NatStatWeek gets this week – in particular on Twitter.  It’s a perfect combination of digital and analogue – mixing my favourite thing in each area: Social Media with Stationery.  One is my profession and the other is my passion – it’s a pretty perfect combination for me.

And whilst I say “National” (meaning here in the UK), there is actually something for everyone to celebrate, no matter where you are in the world and that’s World Stationery Day on Wednesday!

To celebrate the week, I’ll be doing a week long series of daily posts – yes that’s right, daily.  Me.  The “one post a week when I feel like it girl”.  Even though I recently decided to relaunch with the aim of doing one post every Saturday, I thought it was only fitting to dedicate a short post every day to talk about these 7 themes of Stationery…

As the week goes on, these will (hopefully) become hyperlinks to posts.  You know, if things go to plan, that is.

On Twitter or Instagram?  Lets be Social Media friends!  I’ll be engaging throughout the week and talking all about Stationery during that time – as well as sharing some great items and goodies I have for you all.

Write On!

This blog post is about something pretty special – a challenge dedicated to writing letters and bringing back the handwritten form of communication.  In fact, it’s a whole month dedicated to writing letters and oddly enough is referred to as – wait for it – National Letterwriting Month! (Funny that, eh?).  You might remember but I spoke about how writing letters was something I really enjoyed doing before so it’s really no surprise that I love the idea of a letterwriting month!  The Write On challenges you to write a letter daily for the whole month – that’s 30 letters in 30 days!

Write On 3

The challenge itself is run by Egg Press and Hello!Lucky and supported by many other companies and partners.  I think most of the companies involved are US based so it would be amazing for UK based companies  and participants to get involved.  And this is why I have decided to share this with you today – I really want to encourage more people, like myself, to write more letters – and hopefully get more people writing here in the UK.

Write OnThese letters don’t have to be long. They don’t have to be written on beautiful paper, with beautiful handwriting and beautiful coloured pens. They just need to be written, they just need to be sincere. Imagine the recipient’s smile on the other side and write.

So without further ado, I present you with 30* ideas of letters that you could write or who you could write a letter to. (* Bonus ideas at the end are my personal favourites)

And I’m back – in time for National Stationery Week

Hello! As you may know, I took a “short” hiatus from blogging to focus on my health.  Daily life stresses were mounting up and getting to me.  Unfortunately, the hiatus was longer than I had originally hoped but I just kept constantly getting ill!  I’ve now caught some sort of chest infection and just finished a course of antibiotics – which aren’t working but hey, at least we might be getting closer to fixing the problem?  Hopefully?

Nonetheless, I really missed blogging and so, I’ve decided to reopen my blog.  There’s so much to share with you and I have tons of ideas or plans put into place for the coming year.  The timing is also right as it’s almost National Stationery Week!  It’s a week that’s dedicated to stationery and using it!  This year, the week takes place from the 25th April to 1st May 2016 – watch out for all of the amazing giveaways and blog posts that appear during the week!Read More »

6 month anniversary and update

6 month anniversary

Hi everyone!  I’m so thrilled to say that last Monday, on the 16th of November 2015, this blog turned 6 months old and I wanted to share this happy moment with you all!  Quite honestly, it seems like I just passed the three month mark but somehow, these past few months have really flown by.  Last time, I created a few social media accounts – such as my Facebook Page and a new Instagram account specifically for my blog.  Now that we’re at the 6 month stage, I wanted to do a quick update on what I’ve gotten up to in these past three months – as well as use this opportunity to talk about an upcoming giveaway that I’m really excited to do!

CheekyBoo Haul

CheekyBoo Haul (6)This haul is a bit overdue, as I purchased these items a little while ago!  However, these items from CheekyBoo are just so stinking cute that I couldn’t bring myself to use them and ruin their beauty.  I’ve finally managed to get around to opening them up & testing them out and thus, can now review the items and let you know what I think.

The order arrived really quickly and more importantly, it arrived in super cute packaging!  The items inside were wrapped so nicely too that it was more like opening a present than an order.  I really love when companies take a few moments to make your order a little bit more special.  The thought and extra time they put into wrapping your items nicely shows how much they value your order, in my opinion.  CheekyBoo wrapped the items I ordered in really cute and pretty tissue paper, using some washi tape to seal it up.  Without much further ado, let us get into the items that I purchased.  These might just include perfect presents for Christmas!Read More »

Unboxing of the Filofax Gold Saffiano

Saffiano Personal Gold FilofaxFilofax released their special edition Gold Saffiano earlier this month.  I had it on pre-order and so, it arrived at the start of October but sadly, I haven’t had enough time to set it up yet so I thought I would get started today with an unboxing.  I purchased the Personal sized Filofax from Speedy Hen to set up as my first Christmas Planner (so I should definitely get started on this soon!).  The Gold Saffiano has a classic leather-look cross grain effect, which I think is great because you get the leather effect but it’s not made of real leather and that’s perfect for me.  The Gold is such a beautiful colour and it really reminds me of Christmas, so I’m very excited about this planner right now!  Surprisingly, this is actually my first Filofax so I’m super excited to get to the unboxing and see what’s inside!Read More »

September Favourites / Obsessions

I thought I would do something different today and dedicate this week’s post to talk about the things that have happened in September – and more specifically, things that I have become obsessed with over the month.  A number of these will end up on my blog with a proper review, no doubt but for now, I just wanted to give you an overview of my life and my current loves – and perhaps a glimpse of things coming up. So without much further ado, here are my five favourite things to do / use this month, in no particular order!

1. Planners.

Sept Obsessions - PlannersI have always loved planning and lists but I’ve always made done with a couple of planners that I just put everything in. Back in July, I spoke about the planners that I was using (and had been doing so for a while).  However, recently my love has become a little bit of an obsession!  So I have ordered a number of new planners and soon will start setting those up, getting them ready for 2016.  It may seem bizarre to have more than one planner but (if all goes to plan) I want to have a number of different ones for different purposes and I will aim to try and use all of them regularly in 2016.  I won’t give away too much but this weekend, I have been working on setting up my main 2016 planner (the Happy Planner pictured), a pocket sized traveller’s notebook to carry around with me, a Christmas Planner and my blogger’s planner.  There are a few more in the mix too (it really is an obsession)!  But as they say, planners got to plan!  If you are interested in seeing reviews of the different planners (which range from everything from Filofax to Hobonichi) or planner set ups for any of them then please let me know!

2. Washi Tape.

Sept Obsessions - Washi TapeAlright, who doesn’t love Washi Tape?  They come in so many great colours and patterns, with tons of uses!  Once you discover it, it is hard to go back to regular cellotape!  Recently, I have been buying lots of this stuff as I realised my collection was severely lacking.  I may have too much tape by now but it’s definitely still growing!  I particularly love adding washi tape to decorate envelopes for the letters I have been writing (this is coming up next!) but I also use it in my planner, for example.  There are tons of places to get washi tape – whether in store or online – and they come in a huge variety of colours so I’ve been picking up some whenever I’ve been shopping somewhere recently!

3. Snail Mail.

Sept Obsessions - Snail MailSnail Mail, Happy Mail, Letters… whatever the name, I absolutely love this old school form of communication.  These days, it’s rare to get something nice in the post.  So I decided to start doing something I love doing – sending out letters and cards again.  I do love technology and I’m thrilled Social Media exists but the joy of getting a handwritten letter is hard to beat these days.  Earlier this year, I sent some friends a handmade ‘Good Luck with your exams’ cards as they were sitting their final exams of their six year degrees and were incredibly stressed.  It made them so happy that I still hear about it today and I love that my little cards helped make them smile and relax a bit in such a stressful time.  So inspired by that, I have gotten some penpals and will be sending out more and more letters, as well as cards randomly.  And with Christmas coming up soon, it is definitely a good time to start now!

4. Watercolouring.

Sept Obsessions - WatercolouringI have recently picked up my Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolours again, alongside my Tim Holtz Distress Markers (that you can watercolour!).  And instantly I remembered why I love watercolouring.  I love the joy of making simple cards with a bit of watercolouring and have now started to extend it to experiment with these paints on my planners and letter writing paper.  And let’s be fair, most of the paper I own doesn’t do well with water but it is still really fun trying it out anyway!  For watercolouring cards, I tend to use my Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolour paper pad and love using stamps to create simple but fun cards.  I feel like I need more stamps though and that cannot be healthy for my bank balance…  Currently resisting as the other obsessions have mostly filled my bank statements with purchases.

5. Photo-a-Day.

Sept Obsessions - Photo-A-DayThis is by far the most random, given the rest are all stationery and crafts related.  However, I set myself the challenge of taking a photo a day to summarise my day simply because I wanted to.  I had no expectations from it nor rules to follow, allowing myself the freedom to do whatever I wanted to.  Mostly, I thought I would just take a picture every day and write a short description to accompany each photo.  It normally does not take too long but I like the idea of being able to go back through my photos and see what I was up to several months ago.  And it does not have to be a good photo or a happy photo but rather, just a photo of something that means something to me.  I upload these photos onto my personal Instagram account and am thrilled to say that September saw me crossing the one year mark of this challenge!  I have now taken a daily photo for over 365 days and I’m thrilled it is still going as I never expected it to last.  Annoyingly, my phone did not save all of the photos in the ‘Instagram’ folder like it normally does so I don’t have easy access to them all but I will definitely be finding the photos in my gallery, printing them off and attempting to make a book for them!  If anyone knows a good place that I can print off Instagram photos in the UK then please let me know!

So there you have it, my top five obsessions recently – which gives you an idea what might come up as blog posts soon.  These things will definitely be featuring on my Instagram account (@AumsomeBlog) so if you want first glance at what I’m up to then that would be the best place to follow me.  If you have any questions or requests then please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!  Thank you for reading!

Paperchase Organiser: Planner setup

Paperchase Personal OrganiserBack in July, I briefly spoke about the planners & notebooks that I use to organise my life and one of those was a Paperchase personal organiser. There I talk about how I use the planner and the reason I purchased it. I also mentioned that I have some pretty inserts and since then, I have been asked a few times to do a planner setup and show you around the inside of this beautiful organiser. And I’ll admit, it’s a lot harder to capture the setup in photos so I ought to have done a video. But this is a blog (and I currently don’t have a good method of filming) so I thought I would just to have to try my best to show you around with tons of photos and a very indepth description!

This planner has been my main organisation tool since I first brought it, around four years ago. Every year, I buy some new refills, whack those in and bam, we’re ready for the next year! Normally I opt for the plain Paperchase 12 month refills but last year, I came across a set of refills that they did (but they were quite hard to find). These were not available online when I purchased them but they were available in some of the stores. However, they are available this year – both online AND in store!!
